Art, Resilience & Hope

Nour Aldeen Austa is a Syrian activist, artist and vocal artist whose work reflects a strong belief in freedom, equality and the ability of creative expression to help communities heal and reconnect.

His personal journey has been shaped by displacement, artistic practice and civic engagement. During his time in exile, he became an alumnus of Peace of Art's Art Against Violence program, strengthening his commitment to using art as a tool for healing, dialogue and social change.

Now back in his hometown in Syria, Nour coordinates Peace of Art's developing space and programs in the country, helping bring arts-based peacebuilding and community engagement closer to people affected by years of war and conflict.

From Displacement to Community Action

Activism

Nour's early civic engagement was rooted in values of freedom, equality and social justice.

02

Displacement

Shrinking civic space and pressure on activism forced him into displacement, shaping his understanding of conflict and resilience.

03

Art Against Violence

During exile, he joined Peace of Art's Art Against Violence program and strengthened his commitment to arts-based social change.

04

Return to Syria

Returning to his hometown opened a new chapter: bringing Peace of Art's mission closer to communities living with the consequences of war.

Today, his journey within Peace of Art continues in a leadership role as he coordinates the organization's emerging work in Syria.

05
ARTISTIC PRACTICE

Voice as a Form of Expression

As an artist and vocal artist, Nour brings artistic practice directly into his peacebuilding work. His creative identity is not separate from his humanitarian engagement; it is one of the principal ways through which he communicates experiences of resilience, dignity and hope.

Creativity can create space for people to express what conflict, displacement and violence often make difficult to communicate.
