September 2016, Peace of Art proudly launched the first Fine Arts Academy in North Bekaa, offering a vibrant space for creativity, learning, and cultural exchange. The academy provides seven fine arts classes, including Guitar, Piano, Oud, Photography, Drawing, and Basics of Music.

With over 100 beneficiaries of diverse ages, nationalities, and backgrounds, the academy stands as a beacon of unity and artistic expression in the region. Through the arts, we are building bridges across communities, empowering individuals, and nurturing the next generation of artists.

2017, Peace of Art (POA) is proud to announce the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Centre Sport et Culture in Hermel. Through this partnership, POA launched music classes for children and youth at the Hermel City Centre, creating new opportunities for artistic growth, cultural engagement, and youth empowerment.

This collaboration marks an important step in expanding access to the arts and fostering creativity among the younger generations in Hermel.

We organize a diverse range of engaging art workshops specifically aimed at breaking down existing stereotypes that often divide Syrian and Lebanese youth. These workshops provide a creative platform for interaction and understanding, fostering positive relationships among participants from both communities.

Training adolescents at the Peace of Art center on how to effectively use social media and photography as powerful tools to promote peace and foster positive communication is an essential part of our mission. By equipping young individuals with these skills, we aim to enhance their ability to spread awareness and cultivate a more harmonious community.

The POA Team is currently in the process of gathering students from various public primary and secondary schools across the region to attend a series of engaging and informative free workshops that focus on the subjects of music and art.

Al Kayrawan School students recently had the opportunity to visit the Peace of Art center, where they participated in an engaging and informative free music workshop. This workshop included a comprehensive introduction to various musical instruments, allowing the students to explore the world of music in a hands-on manner. The students expressed their excitement and joy over this delightful visit to our center, making it a memorable experience for all involved.

On Saturday, October 6, 2017, the Peace of Art band delivered a captivating live performance of enchanting oriental music during the Souhour event organized by the Baalbeck International Short Films Festival. This event aimed to promote a more vibrant and positive image of Baalbeck, highlighting its rich cultural heritage and showcasing a variety of artistic events and creative activities that celebrate the city's artistic spirit.

Peace of Art, the dynamic band, actively participated in the "Fête de la Musique," an event organized by the esteemed "Institut Français." This initiative aimed to foster and enhance the participation of young people in a variety of artistic events. Furthermore, the band sought to challenge and transform the prevailing stereotype associated with Baalbeck, often perceived as a dangerous red zone plagued by guns and drugs. Through their involvement, they endeavored to promote a more positive and enriching image of the region.

The kids and youth Art camp commenced its activities at the beginning of July in 2017. This vibrant program offers a variety of music classes, including piano, guitar, violin, and Oud, as well as drawing sessions. It is designed to provide children and young individuals the opportunity to discover their unique talents while creating a delightful and colorful environment for them throughout this summer season.

The dedicated team of volunteers from Peace of Art is actively engaged in teaching vulnerable Syrian refugee children at the North Bekaa camps. They focus on imparting the basics of music, encouraging creative expression and emotional healing. In addition to this invaluable instruction, the volunteers also distribute musical notebooks to the children. This initiative aims to foster a sense of joy and tranquility among those affected by the ongoing Syrian crisis, helping to bring peace and happiness to their challenging lives.

“Peacebuilding starts with a smile!” says Mahdi Yahya, the passionate founder of Peace of Art. The organization has received generous funding from the EED to develop its vital work focused on bringing young people from diverse backgrounds together to learn, play, and enjoy the enriching experiences of music and the arts. This initiative aims to foster understanding and camaraderie among participants, creating a positive and welcoming environment for all.

"Musical Medicine" is an agency dedicated to the important work of building and healing the soul through the power of music. One notable initiative, "Sing for Peace," is a selfless effort organized by volunteers from Peace of Art. This initiative involves playing uplifting music for children and youth residing in Syrian refugee camps situated in the Bekaa Valley. By using music as a form of therapy, the program aims to support and nurture children who have been profoundly affected by the traumatic experiences of armed conflicts and displacement, helping them find solace and joy amidst their challenges.

Saturday, June 7th, 2017. As one of the various ways to promote social cohesion in the vibrant community of Baalbeck, and in collaboration with the Baalbeck Municipality and the initiative known as "Baalbeck Cultural Saturday," Peace of Art (PoA) the Band had the pleasure of performing live music at the historic Roman quarry, a renowned archaeological site located in Baalbek. This event aimed to enhance community engagement and appreciation for the area's rich cultural heritage.

Each day of summer, children will have the opportunity to immerse themselves in a vibrant 3-hour creative Art curriculum that encompasses a variety of engaging activities, including Drawing, music playing, short films, and animation. Additionally, students will look forward to participating in our highly anticipated Spectacular Friday ART SHOW, where they can showcase their talents. We provide a spacious Art Room indoors, along with a semi-shaded, safe, and completely fenced indoor play area, ensuring a well-rounded experience for every child.

Simone Weininger is a dedicated Master’s student in Educational Sciences at the prestigious University of Cologne in Germany. For her Master thesis, Simone chose to collaborate with Peace of Art to explore innovative arts-based projects that effectively address and engage with the social tensions currently experienced between local youngsters from Lebanon and refugees.

During the official opening of the "Family Support" Center, which is a collaborative partnership between ABAAD and CREADEL, held in the beautiful region of Labwe, we were honored to be under the esteemed Patronage of His Excellency the Governor of Baalbek-Hermel, Mr. Bachir Khodr. During this special occasion, our Band played vibrant live music to enhance the festive atmosphere and engage the attendees.

On Saturday, September 9th, 2017, the Peace of Art musical band had the honor of performing live at the historic Baalbeck Roman Ruins, specifically at the magnificent Bacchus Temple. This performance took place during The Baalbeck International Short Film Festival, a significant cultural event that aims to promote artistic expression. The band sought to spread a heartfelt message of peace and love from Baalbeck to audiences all around the world. In addition, their performance aimed to challenge and break the negative stereotypes often associated with Baalbeck citizens.

8 September 2017 · Sunday, September 10th, We will be celebrating and honoring the remarkable career and groundbreaking innovations of the legendary poet Khalil Motran at the stunning Baalbeck Roman Ruins, specifically at the iconic Bacchus Temple. This event promises to be a memorable occasion filled with reflection on his artistic contributions and the lasting impact he has had on literature.

In partnership with the esteemed "European Endowment for Democracy", Peace of Art has launched an inspiring initiative titled “Art Against Discrimination”. This significant project aims to empower 80 young individuals from the North Bekaa region. Participants will receive comprehensive training focused on peace-building strategies, while also benefiting from four free art classes in diverse disciplines, including Piano, Oud, Photography, and Short film production. The initiative seeks to nurture creativity and promote inclusive dialogue among the youth, fostering a more harmonious community.

During the "Art Against Discrimination" Initiative, a total of 25 enthusiastic young people hailing from various villages in North Bekaa have participated in free Oud classes, which were designed to foster their musical talents. These classes aim to empower the participants and help them come together to start a small band by the conclusion of the initiative. This newly formed band will perform songs that promote messages of peace and love, encouraging unity and understanding within their community.

On October 10, 2017, a diverse group of enthusiastic young individuals from the Al Hermel Theater visited Peace of Art's community center, eager to benefit from the organization's extensive experience and knowledge. During this engaging visit, they discussed and prepared for potential collaboration opportunities in the future. Peace of Art is committed to supporting all groups of young people who aim to positively develop the region through the transformative power of art and education.

On October 11th, 2017, at the Peace of Art center, we teach little girls to use their voices not only for singing, but also to express themselves in various forms of communication and creativity. This empowers them to share their thoughts, feelings, and unique perspectives with confidence. Mahdi Yahya, the founder of Peace of Art, believes that nurturing these skills is essential for personal development and self-expression. Saturday, October 14th, 2017, marked a significant occasion. Under the esteemed patronage of the Governor of Baalbeck-Al Hermel, Peace of Art (PoA) successfully launched its impactful project titled "Art Against Discrimination," which was generously funded by EED. During this event, the founder of the NGO, Mr. Mahdi Yahya, delivered an inspiring speech in which he emphasized the vital importance and the influential role of the arts in spreading the values of peace and democracy. Following his address, the band took the stage and played a carefully curated set list of delightful songs, which captivated the audience and added to the overall atmosphere of the event.

Bringing together youth from a variety of different backgrounds, religions, and political beliefs is one of our primary goals at Peace of Art. Additionally, we provide training that focuses on how to accept and understand one another. This training incorporates essential civil topics such as peace building, acceptance of others, and fostering peaceful coexistence. Through these initiatives, we aim to cultivate a more democratic and harmonious community, where diverse perspectives are valued and appreciated.

Mr. Mahdi Yahya is proudly representing Lebanon at the Mara Mentor Regional online platform, which serves as a significant initiative within the Arab region. This program is a collaborative effort involving the UN Foundation’s Global Entrepreneurs Council, the Mara Foundation, and UNDP in Jordan. He is engaging with a diverse group of young Arab entrepreneurs, fostering innovation and collaboration among emerging business leaders in the area.

On Friday, the 17th of November in the year 2017, Mr. Mahdi Yahya made an official visit to the Lazio Region center located in Italy. This visit occurred in the context of the YLP3 Program organized by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). During this significant meeting, there was a productive discussion between Mr. Yahya and Mr. Carlo Rossi, who serves as the manager of the office of policies for decentralized cooperations. Additionally, Mr. Lorenzo lo Cascio, a representative from the Ministry of Economy and Development, participated in the conversation. The primary focus of their dialogue was centered on exploring various ways in which Lebanese youth can take advantage of the numerous European Union programs available to them.

Because we believe in the significant and vital role of women in both the humanitarian and civil fields, Vera Mawla has been elected as the President of Peace of Art. Vera holds a diploma in computer studies and has also earned a certificate in piano playing. In addition to her educational achievements, she is a dedicated social and civil activist who is constantly seeking to improve her community and support the youth in various meaningful ways.

Saturday, 18th of November, 2017, marked a memorable occasion as Peace of Art's Band participated in a wonderful event held at the Palmira Hotel in the beautiful city of Baalbeck. This engaging event featured an inspiring selection of poetry pieces presented by our talented friends from Sabt Baalbeck Al Saqafi, including the remarkable works of Moustafa Solh, Ali Kabbout, and Hassan Mokdad. The entire event was thoughtfully organized by the dedicated team at ABAAD organization, making it a truly enriching experience for all involved.

On the International Volunteer Day, we come together to celebrate the remarkable and tireless efforts of Peace of Art's dedicated volunteers, who have generously devoted their time and energy to ensuring that local youth, women, and children, both Syrian and Lebanese, have access to their full rights and the opportunity to live in dignity and equity. These committed individuals help nurture and empower these communities, allowing them to stand out proudly as the future leaders of our society. We volunteer to spread love and compassion. On Thursday, the 14th of December in the year 2017, a dedicated group of volunteers along with talented musicians gathered at Peace of Art. Together, they made a meaningful visit to the orphanage of Jabbouli Monastery, where they joyfully distributed an assortment of sweets. Additionally, they played a selection of festive Christmas songs, bringing smiles and laughter to the children in attendance.

Our band joyfully celebrated Christmas at Ras Baalbeck High School, coming together with students, their families, and friends to share in the delightful festive spirit of the holiday season. It was truly a wonderful occasion filled with laughter, uplifting music, and the radiant warmth of community as we all embraced the joyful atmosphere that permeated the event.

On Thursday, December 28, 2017, in a display of solidarity with the victims of random shootings caused by the presence of illegal weapons in Lebanon, Peace of Art organized a meaningful stand. This event took place along the Zaitun-Main Road, where a group of young people came together to light candles and release small hot air balloons into the sky. Each balloon was thoughtfully signed with the name of an innocent victim, serving as a poignant reminder of the lives lost to violence and a call for peace in the community.

Vera Mawla, the president of Peace of Art, attended the prize-giving ceremony for the top three winners of the exciting photo competition organized on Facebook by PoA Academy. The winners are: 1st place - Joelle Nader, 2nd place - Layal Al Massry, and 3rd place - Riccardo Khoury.
